Common COVID-19 vaccine side effects and how to deal with them; NBPSDHU

As more people get their first and second dose of a COVID-19 vaccine in our region, many are noticing some side effects from the jab.

Andrea McLellan, Director COVID-19 Immunization Strategy said the health unit did anticipate that there would be increased side effects with the second dose.

“The most common side effects are headache, some nausea, general feeling of unwellness and end out your body aches and discomfort pain at the injection site,” she said.

McLellan says if you do experience something similar to listen to your body, rest, and maybe take a Tylenol or Advil if you are experiencing headaches or body aches.

“But I’m not aware of any major side effects that anybody has had or anybody who’s had prolonged side effects following their second dose but it is definitely more common with the second dose than with the first dose,” she said.

The region’s Medical Officer of Health Dr. Jim Chirico added that fatigue has also been very common especially after second doses.
