Eleven area students running their own businesses this summer

The Summer Company student business initiative is back for 2021.

Nearly a dozen area students between the ages of 15 and 29 are running their own small business venture over the summer months.

“This year feels extra special with the added challenge of the Covid-19 pandemic, the eleven students selected have been incredibly resilient, flexible and meticulous about operating safe and successful new businesses,” says Rachel White, Youth & Entrepreneurship Coordinator with The Business Centre Nipissing Parry Sound. “ The passion these students have for their chosen business shines through in their attention to detail and commitment to learning and growing.”

This year’s businesses include custom clothing, website design, homemade baking, coffee bike delivery service, custom dog accessories and more.

“The skills the students learn through Summer Company are invaluable, and set the students up for a future career as an entrepreneur if they decide to continue on that path,” says White.

The students receive a grant of up to $3,000 to help develop their plan, and they can bank all of the profits from their summer venture.

They also receive business training virtually, guidance and mentoring while gaining valuable business and leadership skills.
