Council pay raise on the docket tonight

North Bay’s Councillors could be getting a raise. Mac Bain has filed a motion to discuss increasing the pay of city Councillors and the mayor.

The motion says that many other communities pay their municipal councils more than North Bay. Council is expected to discuss whether the motion will be adopted during tonight’s meeting. Councillors currently make just over $19-thousand a year.

City politicians will also consider changes to the council structure tonight. Another motion filed by Mac Bain suggests reducing the number of Councillors from 10 to 8. If adopted the new structure wouldn’t take effect until the 2018 election. It would save the city around $50-thousand a year.
