“cooking-related” fire on Worthington West

One person has been taken to hospital for possible smoke inhalation following a fire in an apartment building.

Just after 8:30 this morning, fire crews got the call about a fire at 130 Worthington St West.

Jason Whiteley, Chief of North Bay Fire and Emergency Services, says crews got there quickly.

“We found a kitchen fire and lots of smoke in the unit,” said Whiteley. “We’ve got the fire out at this time and crews are just removing things and making sure it hasn’t extended into the walls or anything.”

Whiteley says primary and secondary searches of the unit have been done, as well as a search of the entire building to make sure everyone is safe.

“We’re now systematically trying to remove smoke from the fire floor and other floors,” he said. “Our fire prevention division is on-scene and they’ll do a thorough investigation into the cause, but right now it looks cooking-related.”
