New multi-use recreational court and sidewalk projects approved

A new multi-use recreational court is going to be built on the community waterfront park.

Councillor Chris Mayne, Chair of Infrastructure and Operations, says a contract for nearly $400,000 has been awarded for the project.

“I think there was a lot of support for multi-use recreational courts in the community during the budget this year.  This is going to bring forward a full basketball court and a half basketball court that will be able to be used for other events and sports as well,” he says.

It’ll be located at the end of Wyld Street behind parking lot 10.

The work is expected to be completed in late October or early November.

Mayne also says council awarded a $2.5 million contract for sidewalk and stormwater improvements on five roadways.

He says it’ll be a multi-year project.

“Lindsay Street will likely start this year which will include some areas of Johnston and Giroux Street.  Lakeside and Airport Road likely won’t start until next year,” Mayne says.

A staff report says the city has been successful in obtaining funding through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP): Public Transit Stream to complete the installation of sidewalks and stormwater improvements, on numerous streets throughout the city over six years (2021 through 2026).
