Though the COVID-19 pandemic means no Take Back the Night March this year, Amelia Rising, North Bay’s Sexual Violence Support Centre, is still planning on doing its part.
In September, the organization is asking the community to Light Up the Night by displaying paper luminarias in solidarity.
Participants can get a free luminary kit from the organization and are asked to decorate them in any way they would like to help shed a light on sexual and gender-based violence.
The event will launch with a 30-minute luminary decorating activity and is open to all ages.It will also have Amelia Rising staff and guest speakers touching on the topic.
The organization says gender-based violence has been its own pandemic prior to COVID-19, but with at-home orders, service restrictions, they’ve seen an increasing number of gender-based violence within the home.
