Over $35,000 raised at the 23rd Annual Osprey Links Charity Golf Gala

A successful day on the links.

That’s what over 110 golfers had on Wednesday.

That’s according to Tammy Morison, President and CEO of the North Bay Regional Health Centre Foundation.

The golfers attended the 23rd Annual Osprey Links Charity Golf Gala.

“It was terrific. We were able to raise over $35,000, taking the last four-year goal of exceeding $150,000,” said Morison. “We had a great field of players, lots of games on the course, and a wonderful meal and a great time was had by all.”

Last year’s gala was a different one due to the pandemic. This year, organizers were happy to be returning to their roots.

“We were so excited to return to more of a traditional golf tournament with a shotgun start, and games on the course, all done with protocols and safety reminders in place. Just being able to have more camaraderie and interaction with all the players made for a terrific day,” she said.

The fundraiser is one of the bigger ones for the foundation. This year is the last year the funds will be going towards the Cancer Care Close to Home Campaign.

“Cancer Care Close to Home concluded a year ago last January. Many groups and donors fulfilled their commitments and pledges over time. So this was the last tournament towards that campaign. We’ve reached our goal of $150,000, which is part of our 6.4 million dollar target for medical equipment and treatment for patients with cancer who care close to home,” she said.

Morison says because of the huge success of the campaign, a ‘huge’ list of medical equipment is being purchased.

“Notably, we were able to replace our ageing CT scanner and add a second CT scanner. That would be the largest part of the campaign at 2M dollars,” she said. “Other equipment such as lab equipment, surgical equipment, certain things for chemotherapy, and all across the continuum of care including pain management was included in that campaign. It had such a huge impact for our patients who were either diagnosed with cancer or receiving cancer treatment.”

“I want to thank all of the organizers, volunteers and sponsors help make yesterday such a great day. It was an amazing day on the golf course,” finished Morison.
