A move to reduce the size of North Bay city council to eight councillors from the current 10 has been defeated. A vote Monday night was 7-3 to keep the status quo.
Mac Bain proposed a smaller council saying it saves money even though salaries may go up. But Jeff Serran didn`t buy the argument.
Another concern was a smaller-sized council means a lot more work. But Bain says it`s not fair that councillors would oppose more work when they ask staff to do more with less.
And Bain adds council can replace some councillors on the agencies, boards and commissions with more volunteers
