NBPS back-to-school safety campaign results in charges

Several charges have been laid as a part of the city police back-to-school safety initiative.

The North Bay Police Service (NBPS) started enhanced traffic safety patrols on Tuesday as part of a multi-week road safety campaign as students return to school.

Six people were charged under the Highway Traffic Act on the first day,  including five for speeding.

The other person was charged with disobeying a lane light.

Officers also responded to reports that a vehicle left the roadway and stopped in the 700-block of Scollard Street.

A 35-year-old man was charged with drug possession.

Officers seized about 47 suspected methamphetamine pills and approximately 2 grams of suspected crystal methamphetamine.
