As of right now, the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit won’t stand in the way of high school sports starting back up.
Shannon Mantha, Executive Director of Clinical Services & Chief Nursing Officer, says they worked with the school boards over the summer and have come up with a plan that meets provincial guidelines.
“At the present time we don’t have any plans to restrict sports and activities that align with current provincial guidance, although this could change if we start seeing more cases or outbreaks and increased community transmission,” she says.
Mantha says it’ll be up to the school boards to determine timelines with sports starting back up.
“We completely recognize the importance of physical activity and connectivity with children and youth and the benefit that sports and extracurricular activities play in the lives of children and youth and families,” she adds. “We’ll also be trying to balance that with local case counts, community transmission and activity in schools.”
Mantha also says if schools or other locations are used as polls for the upcoming federal election they’ll need to ensure that they’re following adequate public health measures and following provincial requirements.
“This would include physical distancing, cleaning protocols, use of facial coverings indoors (and) adhering to maximum capacity sizings,” she says.
