Chopper pilot facing impaired charge

A Newfoundland man is facing an impaired charge after city police responded to a call about a helicopter being operated erratically.

Police responded to the call at the Jack Garland Airport just after 7 pm on September 15.

It’s alleged the accused, who was the only occupant of the helicopter, made an unscheduled stop at the airport in an unapproved area.

The release states after interacting with police, he was taken into custody.

The 56-year-old has been charged with:

  • One Count of Impaired Operation; and
  • One Count of refusal to provide a sample

He remains in custody pending a bail hearing at the North Bay Courthouse.
