W.J. Fricker replacement school approved

The province has approved the construction of a replacement school for WJ Fricker Senior Public School.

$20 million will be going towards the project. MPP Vic Fedeli made the announcement on Sept. 22.

The Near North District School Board has gotten approval to tender the replacement school to support the consolidation with ET Carmichael Public School and EW Norman Public School.

Fedeli says this investment will provide a quality learning environment and new opportunities for the children of North Bay.

For Jay Aspin, Chair of the Board of Trustees for Near North District School board, it’s an important approval.

“This school will ensure that more students in the city will experience the modern features of a contemporary elementary school,” he said. “This school build has been a priority of our board since elected and we have worked diligently to make it happen.”

The new school construction will include over 300 student spaces, 73 new licensed childcare spaces, four new childcare rooms, as well as an EarlyON child and family centre.

The replacement school will be located at the existing site on Norman Ave.
