Battalion relieved, excited about capacity limit increase

The capacity limit for North Bay Battalion home games has increased to approximately 2,200.

That means all season ticket holders are now eligible to join the team for the upcoming season.

“The word relief first came to mind,” said Mike Griffin, North Bay Battalion President. “It allows us now to have the season ticket holders who were not able to be accommodated in the first 1,000, now can be accommodated. It’s a relief for us. We were getting a lot of frustrated calls and saying to folks ‘the guidelines are 1,000, and we have more people than 1,000 to fit in here and we can’t do it’ but now we can. I’m really, really pleased with that. Now we get ready with the home opener.”

In an e-mail to ticket holders, the OHL club says invoices will soon be sent out to those who renewed earlier but did not qualify under the previous capacity of 1,000.

“It’s been a quiet existence for 18 months,” said Griffin. “Having people in here just for exhibition games… the players, for a lot of them, this is the first exposure to having hundreds of people, let alone the thousands that will be here. The noise that first night was again, a sense of relief, but also a lot of excitement.

The letter says they’re also waiting on confirmation from our local Health Unit regarding seating plans (general admission vs. assigned seating) and will share that information once it becomes available.

The Troops host the Peterborough Petes on Oct. 7.
