Back-to-school safety initiative results in dozens of charges

The results are in from the city police back-to-school safety initiative. 

72 charges under the Highway Traffic Act were laid during the two-week campaign, with one person arrested for impaired driving. 

The campaign started September 7th and saw enhanced traffic safety patrols along bus routes and in Community Safety Zones.  

The North Bay Police Service worked closely with local school bus companies and drivers to identify areas in the city where traffic laws were being violated.

During the campaign 65 charges for speeding were laid. 

There were three charges for disobeying a School Bus Stop Arm, two drivers were under suspension and there was one incident each of disobeying a lane light and disobeying a stop sign. 

Police also say a 50 year old North Bay man was arrested and charged with impaired driving around 3 pm on September 15th in the 1100-block of Algonquin Avenue. 

City police remind drivers to put safety first in Community Safety Zones and stop for school buses when their lights are flashing.
