68-year-old East Ferris man charged with impaired driving

A 68-year-old East Ferris man is facing an impaired charge.

On Saturday, shortly after 10 am, off-duty police officer Merv Shantz saw the man who he says appeared to be intoxicated while driving. After following him and witnessing erractic driving, he called in a report to police.

The accused was then pulled over on Regina Street, near Laurier Avenue. On-duty police arrived shortly after and charged the accused, who officers say had visible signs of impairment.

An Ontario Provincial Police Drug Recognition Evaluation Officer attended and deemed the accused to be impaired.

The man was released on an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the North bay Courthouse on October 19th.

City police say if you witness an individual who is driving dangerously or appears to be impaired, pull over when it is safe to do so and call 9-1-1 or have a passenger call. To assist police, try to remember:

  • The licence plate number
  • Colour of the vehicle
  • Direction of travel
