COVID-19 patient from Saskatchewan arrives at NBRHC on Tuesday

The North Bay Regional Health Centre will be receiving a COVID-19 patient from Saskatchewan on Tuesday.

Hospital officials confirmed they were notified by the Ontario Critical Care COVID-19 Command Centre on Monday.

The new patient arrives from out west as Saskatchewan continues its battle with COVID-19. The prairie province has been setting record-breaking numbers during October. As of this weekend, over 80 people are currently in the province’s ICU.

On Sunday, Saskatchewan officials asked provinces across the country for additional healthcare workers. Today, it announced it would be sending patients to six different Ontario hospitals.

Scott Livingstone, CEO of the Saskatchewan Health Authority, says he recognizes the stress this will cause the families affected.

“We continue to work every day to maximize capacity to provide care as close to home as possible, but this decision is necessary to maintain the quality of critical care services our patients need,” he says. “We are extremely thankful to our partners in Ontario for stepping up and providing this support.”
