2021 poppy campaign is underway

Royal Canadian Legion members locally and right across Canada are now distributing poppies and accepting donations to the Poppy Fund.

The 2021 poppy campaign is underway and includes something new for the Callander Legion Branch 445.

Along with traditional poppy boxes, they’re using a Pay Tribute Box for digital donations, too.

The boxes allow for donations of $2, $5 or $10 with a simple tap of either a credit or debit card or a payment app on their smartphone.

“This is one of the most important times of the year for our Branch,” says Branch President Marc Picard. “All poppy funds collected remain local and are used to directly assist Veterans and their families in times of need.”

The poppy is worn by millions of Canadians every year from the last Friday in October until November 11th to honour Canada’s Veterans and remember those who sacrificed for our freedom.

On November 11th, the Callander Legion Pipes and Drums, the Colour Party and Legion members will parade along Veterans Way to the Callander Cenotaph for services at 11 am.

Legion Branch 23 in North Bay says this year’s Remembrance Day Service will be held at the Memorial Park Cenotaph (pictured above) at the corner of Ferguson Street & First Avenue West.

The service will start at 11 am and is open to the public.

West Ferris Legion Branch 599 is holding a Remembrance Day ceremony as well on November 11th.

It is open to the public, however, space is limited.

They’ve also started their poppy campaign with poppy boxes located throughout the West Ferris area of the city.
