‘Big Fish’ painting donated to the city

A new art piece is coming to North Bay City Hall.

Council recently accepted a donation from an anonymous donor.

Deputy Mayor Tanya Vrebosch says ‘Big Fish’ is a large oil canvas painted by North Bay’s Dennis Geden.

“We do have quite a few art pieces throughout the building and this is a piece that a citizen is donating.  There’s an appraised value of $35,000.  The appraisal is at no cost to the city,” she says.

Vrebosch says they typically rotate the art pieces at City Hall so they can showcase the different pieces that the city owns.

“Due to COVID, we haven’t been doing that.  However, I think that this is probably a great opportunity for us to join and celebrate the arts community when COVID settles down a little bit so we can start showing the public some of the art pieces that we’ve obtained over the years,” she says.

At their last meeting, Council thanked the anonymous donor and voted to provide a tax receipt for the value of the painting.
