Just over $300,000 is coming to Canadore and Nipissing University to increase mental health supports.

The funding comes from the $8.7 million for postsecondary institutions the province announced earlier this month in the 2021 Ontario Economic Outlook and Fiscal Review: Build Ontario.
Vic Fedeli, Nipissing MPP, says over the last few years mental health needs for postsecondary students have increased dramatically.

“This investment in the mental health of our students will ensure we’re supporting them in their studies and future career goals because when they succeed, we all succeed,” he says.
The funding breakdown is as follows:

Canadore College

  • $57,553 for the Mental Health Services Grant
  • $94,444 for the Mental Health Workers Grant

Nipissing University

  • $61,734 for the Mental Health Service Grant
  • $94,444 for the Mental Health Workers Grant

This additional funding will support postsecondary students and will help to address the increased need for mental health services due to the COVID‐19 pandemic. It also includes new funding for the nine Indigenous Institutes in Ontario and the Northern Ontario School of Medicine, and l’Université de l’Ontario français.
