Bookings at area child and youth vaccine clinics filling up

Several child and youth vaccination clinics in the area are already fully booked.

The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit began taking vaccination appointments for children ages 5 to 11 on Tuesday.

Andrea McLellan, Director of COVID-19 Immunization Strategy, says the first session in North Bay was fully booked by noon that day.

“Additional clinics have been added and will continue to be added in response to demand for appointments.  Our youth and child clinics have been scheduled for after-school hours in order to support parents bringing their child to the clinic to receive the vaccine,” she says.

As of Friday morning, four child and youth clinics in North Bay are already fully booked, with the next available session on Sunday, December 12th.

McLellan says even when people believe that being vaccinated is the right thing to do, it can be a difficult decision to get a child immunized.

“Several online resources provide credible information regarding vaccinations in children and offer advice for how to speak to your child and prepare them for their vaccination,” she says. “This would include sources such as our website, the Ministry of Health’s website, Sick Kids, Immunize BC and the University of Toronto.”

Child and youth vaccination clinics are also taking place in Mattawa, South River, Sundridge and Parry Sound.
