Concussion prevention and safety the focus of exercise class

Cor Maximus is encouraging local residents to join the 38 Challenge to promote concussion prevention and safety.

Sports Therapist and Ultimate Ball Class instructor Khouri Long says the 38 Challenge exercise class is being held virtually on Monday, December 6th.

She says the challenge was created to honour the life of former soldier and athlete Matt Brewer, who wore number 38.

“The concept is to incorporate 38 into any type of workout.  This workout that we will be doing is a beginner to advanced, so everyone is invited, young and old and all athletic abilities.  It will be a 38-minute workout,” Long says.

The workout can be done with or without an exercise ball.

Long says the virtual class will be a donation of $15 with all of the proceeds going to the Concussion Legacy Foundation, which offers a helpline.

“Sometimes when you’re dealing with concussions you just need somebody to talk to about how you’re feeling and hopefully preventing the worst-case scenario, which is what Matt Brewer did, he took his own life.  Hopefully, if there is a helpline that people can reach out to, that final outcome won’t happen,” says Long.

Those interested in taking part in the class can register by emailing [email protected] or by calling 705-476-8888.
