Area snow depth just above normal

The first snow survey readings of the season are in.

The North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority (NBMCA) says average snowfall at all of it’s sites is just over 11 cm, or just above normal.

Water equivalence is nearly 18 mm and is also just above normal.

However, both figures are down considerably from this time last year.

“In 2020, the average snow depth for the three sites was 21.6 cm and water equivalence was 38.3 mm at this time of year last year,” says Angela Mills, NBMCA Water Resources Specialist.

When looking at the Conservation Authority’s specific measurement sites, snow depth in North Bay and Corbeil are 30-50 percent above average while it’s 30 percent below in Chisholm.

NBMCA measures snow depth and water content as part of its Flood Forecasting and Warning Program.
