Marking the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women

A local group is honouring the memories of the 14 women murdered at Montreal’s Ecole Polytechnique on December 6, 1989.

The North Bay chapter of the Canadian Federation of University Women is hosting a walk and vigil on this National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.

The walk begins at 4:45 pm from the Vimy Ridge Monument on First Avenue and makes its way to Leger Square at City Hall.

At 5:10 pm the vigil will include a reading of the names of those killed, a moment of silence and more.

The event is also a fundraiser for the National CFUW Ecole Polytechnique Commemorative Scholarship Award, with donations being accepted.

This is the 18th year of the local event to honour the women who lost their lives in Montreal and the many women who have lost their lives to gender-based violence.
