Fundraiser set up for single mom after house fire

A GoFundMe has been set up after an area single mother lost everything in a house fire.

Adwenna Peters says her childcare provider Natalie, who is also a foster mom, lives just outside the city and she and her family lost her home, and all of their possessions on Thursday.

“This lady is the backbone, not only to kids in the indigenous community in North Bay but the Indigenous Hub itself.  It just opened in 2019 and she runs every part of the childcare,” Peters says.  “She’s a part of every single one of the children’s lives, Monday to Friday.”

Peters says Natalie provides a safe environment for her daughter.

“My daughter is from Moose Factory, she is a third-generation residential school survivor so daycare was something super scary for me to put my daughter into.  I was super unsure about it, I don’t really trust anyone with my kid.  “Then I met Natalie and instantly fell in love, I instantly knew my daughter would be safe there, safe with her,” Peters says.

Along with financial donations, clothing is also being accepted.
