The North Bay’s Families First fireworks display planned for New Year’s Eve has been cancelled due to reduced social gathering limits for indoor and outdoor settings and a rising number of cases of COVID-19 in the community and across the province.
Chair Wendy Prieur says the Families First Committee is disappointed to not ring in 2022 as planned, and she’s thanking the community for understanding the need to avoid larger in-person gatherings at this time.
The news comes as our country continues to see high COVID-19 cases from coast to coast.
Ontario recorded 8,825 new cases of the virus yesterday (Tuesday) with 187 people in intensive care across the province.
Alberta Premier Jason Kenney announced yesterday that the province’s positivity rate for the virus has gone up by 450 per cent compared to the four per cent average the province experienced for much of December. His comment was approximate as the usual in-depth data is expected to be released today.
In B.C., 1,785 new COVID-19 cases were recorded yesterday with officials saying the latest tally is preliminary and more in-depth information will be released today (Wednesday).
