Guns and drugs seized by city police

Over 70 total drug and weapons charges have been laid against five city residents. 

This after a Thursday afternoon traffic stop on Trout Lake Road and an early evening police investigation on the 700-block of Airport Road. 

The North Bay Police Service reports about $54,000 worth of drugs were seized, including suspected liquid codeine, cocaine, fentanyl, methamphetamine and Xanax pills.  

Two firearms, including a sawed-off shotgun, ammunition and an edged weapon were also seized.

Ages of the accused range from 18 to 31. 

Three of them were released with February 15th court appearances while two of the accused are in custody awaiting a bail hearing at the North Bay Courthouse.

A variety of police units were involved in the investigation, including the North Bay Police Service’s Criminal Investigations Section, NBPS Street Crime Unit, NBPS Uniformed Patrol Section, NBPS Community Response Unit along with the Ontario Provincial Police, the OPP Tactical Rescue Unit, and the OPP Emergency Response Team.

A stretch of Airport Road was closed off to traffic for a time Thursday evening during the investigation.
