New seniors housing development on Trout Lake Road

What’s described as an innovative senior tailored apartment concept is being proposed in North Bay.

Local entrepreneurs Tom and Geoff Richardson have teamed up with CORE Realty Partners to secure 6.2 acres of land on the 2600-block of Trout Lake Road, near Giroux St.

The first phase of the project will be a 134 unit apartment building tailored to seniors.

Units will include one bedroom, a den and full accessibility throughout the space.

“What really sets this property apart is the amenities themselves,” the Richardson brothers say, in a release.  “We are planning over 20,000 sq ft of space on the main floor to accommodate these shared spaces.”

They’re planning a licensed lounge, a Bistro, a fully-equipped wellness centre, and several flex spaces.

“Unlike traditional seniors housing models, most of the services in a senior’s tailored apartment are provided “a-la-carte”, Since they can decide and pay for services that they require, the overall cost of living becomes much more manageable,” states the release.

The Richardsons say after initial consultation with the city they received confirmation that there are no significant obstacles on the property with zoning allowing for apartments and retirement homes up to six storeys.

Geoff Richardson says the purchase of the property should be completed in the next couple of months, with the architects working on the design.

Next will be site-plan approval, which is expected within 12 months, and selecting the builder.
