Below average snow depth in the area

Snow depth in the area is on the rise, but it is still below normal.

The North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority says snow depth increased by 14.6 cm between Jan. 4 and 13.

“The average snow depth for all sites is 26.9 cm (80% normal),” says Angela Mills, NBMCA Water Resources Specialist.  “In 2021, the average snow depth for the three sites was 34.1 cm.”

Snow is measured for depth and water equivalence at three locations in the watershed.

In North Bay, snow depth is just over 90 percent of normal while it’s nearly 80 percent in Corbeil and 70 percent in Chisholm.

Water content in the snow is also below average for this time of year.
