Break and enter, arson and assault charges for a city man

A 34-year-old city man is facing several charges including break and enter, theft, arson and a couple of counts of assaulting a peace officer.

It’s alleged a Fraser Street residence was broken into around 3 am Tuesday, with food eaten and a window damaged, which resulted in water pipes freezing and significant damage to the residence.

The North Bay Police Service also says at 5:45 pm the accused knocked on the door of a Cassells Street residence, accosted a person and threatened to damage the property.

It’s alleged a liquid accelerant was poured onto the front porch, then lit, causing a fire, which was extinguished by the victim.

Police say a witness saw the accused travel from Cassells Street to a residence on Fraser Street, where an arrest was made.

It’s further alleged while in police custody, two officers were assaulted and sustained minor injuries.

The victims and accused are not known to one another.

The accused is in custody awaiting a bail hearing at the North Bay Courthouse.
