DNSSAB sets strategic direction

A new 20-year strategic plan has been approved by the District of Nipissing Social Services Administration Board (DNSSAB).

The mission is to ‘Support accessible human services in Nipissing District’ with the new vision of ‘Healthy, Sustainable Communities’.

The DNSSAB offers programs and supports for residents through temporary financial support and employment assistance, affordable and emergency shelter, early learning and licensed child care, and paramedic services.

The plan’s goals include maximizing impact, removing barriers, seamless access, and continuous improvement and adaptation, which DNSSAB says, set the direction for the organization, with the opportunity to adjust at every election cycle.

“There has been much work and consultation done to develop this plan, and it ensures a clear direction for the next 20 years regardless of who is on the Board of Directors,” says Board Chair Mark King (pictured).

He adds that the flexibility of adjusting priorities within the set goals allows future boards to commit to changes that are needed at that time and during the respective four-year Board terms.

DNSSAB says accomplishments by the current board include:

  • The development of a transitional housing complex on Chippewa Street and the creation of a new low barrier shelter;
  • Paramedic Services being moved in-house for a flexible direct delivery service and expanded Community Paramedicine programs;
  • The sale of commercial property at 129-133 Main Street with proceeds going towards the development of new affordable housing;

The DNSSAB collaborates with community partners to deliver programs and services to meet the needs of residents of the District’s 11 municipalities, two First Nations and the unincorporated areas.
