Ottawa is providing $10.9 million in funding for nearly 30 community infrastructure projects across the north.
Three are in our area.
Powassan and Bonfield are each receiving nearly half a million dollars.
The funding will help Powassan reimagine and revitalize its main community park area in the downtown core.
Among other things, the project includes relocating playground structures and creating a new accessible structure, creating a new parking area and covered walkway, and providing fully accessible access to the recreation centre and curling club.
Nearly $500,000 will also support upgrades to Kaibuskong and Centennial Parks in Bonfield.
Projects include a new splash pad and all-weather outdoor fitness park along with waterfront improvements to the dock, playground structure, picnic area and parking.
The Township of Nipissing receives nearly $63,000 to purchase and install playground equipment at Heritage Park.
The federal comes from the Canada Community Revitalization Fund (CCRF).
