A couple of expected changes to the city’s burning bylaw are now official.
After three readings at council Tuesday night, outdoor fires are now allowed in North Bay between 6 pm and midnight.
It’s an earlier start from the previous time of 7:30 pm and provides an extra half hour overall of burning time.
The city says the change is expected to benefit young families while helping to reduce nuisance complaints with late-night burning.
Before the change, fires were allowed to burn until 1 am.
A permit is still required.
The amended bylaw also repeals a restriction that prohibited the use of barbecues on balconies, rooftops or decks above the first storey of a building.
It is now up to building owners, condominium boards and management representatives to decide if barbecues will be allowed.
