House fire sends two people to hospital

Several cats died in a house fire in the 500 block of Lakeshore Drive Thursday morning.

That from Deputy Fire Chief Greg Saunders who says crews were dispatched just before 8 am.

“When we got here we had to get [three] people out of the home,” he says.  “When we arrived on the scene there was significant smoke and fire.  Two people have been taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.”

However, several pets died.

“Unfortunately there were seven cats in the home and a number of the cats perished in the fire,” he says.

Saunders says the investigation is just getting underway.

“Our fire prevention unit will conduct a full investigation to determine the cause of the fire,” he says.

Saunders says Near North Victim Services is supporting the residents evacuated from the home and North Bay Police provided traffic control to ensure the safety of firefighting personnel.

With fire crews on the scene and the hydrant across the street near the LCBO, all four lanes of Lakeshore were blocked off in the Marshall Park Drive area.
