Province invests nearly $1.9 million in NBRHC

Over $1.8 million is coming to the North Bay Regional Health Centre from the province.

Vic Fedeli, MPP for Nipissing, says it’s for Q2 of this fiscal year.

The money is in addition to the over $1.8 million in COVID-19 related reimbursements the NBRHC received in January.

“The North Bay Regional Health Centre has been on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic and our government is using every tool at our disposal to support them,” said Vic Fedeli, MPP for Nipissing. “We will continue to work with our Health Centre as we make Ontario stronger.”

Officials say provincial funding will assist the hospital to continue its role as the frontline response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

“Hospitals have incurred additional costs during the pandemic as we adapted to ensure we kept our most vulnerable patients safe,” says Michael Lowe, Interim Board Chair of the North Bay Regional Health Centre. “NBRHC is pleased to be the recipient of the funding announced today by Minister Fedeli to help stabilize our organization as we continue to provide an accessible and safe environment for our staff, patients and community.”

In March 2020, the Ontario government announced an additional investment of $571.9 million to reimburse hospitals for COVID-19 expenses incurred during the first wave of the pandemic. Since then, the government has continued to reimburse hospitals for various COVID-19 expenses, including those related to vaccine delivery, a range of health human resources initiatives, and minor capital costs to operationalize beds targeted for COVID-19 patients.
