Residential water rates heading down in North Bay

Residential water rates are going down in North Bay in January.  The per cubic litre rate is dropping about 30 percent and the flat rate is going down about six percent.

That puts the flat rate at $29.50 a month from the present $31.20.  As for the variable amount, the 30 percent drop takes it to a $1.03, down from a buck 46.

Budget chairman Sheldon Forgette says it`s good news for homeowners.  However Forgette says not everyone benefits.

Forgette says when the city switched to metered water, it drove up prices in other areas like condos and multi residential.   Two landlords who own a 30-unit condo development told council Monday night that metered watered is costing them an extra $700 a month.
