MP and House of Commons Speaker Rota undergoes scheduled bypass surgery

Nipissing-Timiskaming MP and Speaker of the House of Commons Anthony Rota is doing well after undergoing heart bypass surgery.

Spokesperson Matthew Sookram says Rota underwent planned and scheduled bypass surgery at Health Sciences North in Sudbury on Monday.

“He is resting comfortably and doing well,” says Sookram, in a statement.

“[MP Rota] is expected to be in the hospital for about a week, which is the normal procedure,” says Sookram. “And then he’ll slowly return to normal Parliamentary duties over the next few weeks.”
