Funding to create affordable housing for seniors in Powassan

New affordable housing units for seniors are being built in Powassan thanks to nearly $1.6 million in government funding.

Provincial and federal money will see 25 bachelor apartments created in a three-story building on Big Bend Avenue.

There are also one and two-bedroom apartments in the building, which is near the Powassan Medical Centre, along with pharmacies, shopping, recreational activities and more.

“Every Canadian deserves a safe and affordable place to call home,” says Anthony Rota, Member of Parliament for Nipissing -Timiskaming.  “Our government continues to create more affordable homes that meet the needs of seniors in Powassan. This is the National Housing Strategy at work.”

Vic Fedeli, Member of Provincial Parliament for Nipissing, says the COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in challenges and obstacles for seniors across the north and supporting the most vulnerable has never been more important.

“It’s encouraging to see all levels of government work together to create much-needed affordable housing for seniors in Powassan,” Fedeli says.

The money is being delivered through the Canada-Ontario Community Housing Initiative and the Ontario Priorities Housing Initiative.
