North East OPP wrap Easter Weekend Traffic Campaign

Over 1,300 traffic stops and nearly 50 seatbelt-related charges.

That’s what the North East Region OPP is reporting after their Easter Weekend Traffic Campaign which saw officers across the region out and about, with specific attention to seatbelt use.
Regional Traffic Manager for the region, Inspector Ray St. Pierre, says it’s a move in the positive direction.

“While the majority of drivers and passengers understand the lifesaving value of seatbelts, we continue to see drivers and passengers who choose not to buckle up,” he says. “It’s important to remember that seatbelts assist in preventing fatalities as well as minimizing injuries in the event of a collision. A properly used seatbelt plays a key role in keeping you within the engineered life-space of your vehicle, which in-turn increases your chances of survival.”

Police are reminding everyone that those traveling in a motor vehicle must properly wear a seatbelt and children must be properly secured in a child car seat or booster depending on their age and size.
