Local Day of Action planned for May

The North Bay and District Labour Council is joining a province-wide Day of Action on May 1st.

They say May Day is a traditional worker’s holiday to celebrate gains won over the years and commit to fighting for a better future for everyone.

“The May 1st Day of Action is an opportunity for all struggles for justice and a better world to come together in a united movement,” says Henri Giroux, President of North Bay and District Labour Council.

Along with healthcare concerns, the labour council says northern Ontarians are facing several issues, including affordable housing and childcare, dependable infrastructure in the winter and more.

“The Ontario Health Coalition has mounted a province-wide campaign against privatization of our health care system, especially the introduction of private hospitals,” said Michael Taylor, North Bay and District Health Coalition.

On Tuesday, the local health coalition launched a health care lawn sign campaign.

The May Day public event is planned for North Bay City Hall at 12:30 pm on May 1st.
