The first week of a city police campaign targeting excessive vehicle noise and illegally modified vehicles resulted in 32 charges.
A dozen were for speeding with eight charges for improper mufflers.
There were also charges for excessive noise, stunt driving and a couple of counts under the Environmental Protection Act as a result of modified exhausts or the removal of a vehicle’s catalytic converter.
Some drivers were also charged for not having a license and operating a handheld communication device.
Police say along with fines, some of the offences can result in the offender’s vehicle being impounded, driver’s license suspension, and mandated vehicle inspections.
The campaign continues with anyone with any information about vehicles contravening the city’s noise by-laws being encouraged to call police or Crime Stoppers.
