OHL overage player of the year honours for Brandon Coe

North Bay Battalion forward Brandon Coe is the OHL’s overage player of the year.

The league announced the 20-year-old is the Leo Lalonde Memorial Trophy winner, as voted on by OHL general managers.

Coe finished 5th in league scoring and led the Battalion with 101 points from 34 goals and 67 assists in 62 games this season.

He joined Wojtek Wolski in 2005-06 and Justin Brazeau in 2018-19 as the only players in franchise history to achieve the triple-digit mark in points.

“It’s an honour to be named overage player of the year,” said Coe. “It’s been a good year for me and our team, so it’s pretty cool to be recognized for that.”

General manager Adam Dennis says the team is happy for Coe.

“He truly deserves this award and has had to deal with quite a bit of adversity to get here,” Dennis says. “He’s been a leader on and off the ice for our team and has shown significant growth since coming back from his stint in the American Hockey League last season.”

Coe was selected by the San Jose Sharks in the fourth round of the 2020 National Hockey League Draft and signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the northern Californa-based team in December.

He is also a finalist for the Red Tilson Trophy as OHL’s most outstanding player.
