Crews are installing a new surface for the walkway along the marina at the city’s waterfront.
“The wooden boardwalk, which was in need of replacement due to rotting and failing boards, was removed last fall and left as aggregate through the winter months,” states a release from the city. “After consultation with the City’s Municipal Accessibility Advisory Committee, the boardwalk is being replaced with a hard paver surface that will make the walkway more accessible for those using wheelchairs and without full mobility.”
The work is being done in phases and has started at the
boat launch end of the walkway.
The city says access to the Marina will be maintained throughout the project.
After being delayed last summer, the city’s first bike box is being painted on Thursday.
The bike box is located at the intersection of Main Street West, Memorial Drive and Murray Street.
“A bike box is a designated area at the head of a traffic lane at a signalized intersection that provides cyclists with a safe and visible way to get ahead of queuing traffic during a red-light signal,” states a release. The city says vehicles are required to stop behind the green bike boxes and during green lights, cyclists have priority through the intersection.
The bike box, which will be accessible via Memorial Drive, is part an ongoing effort to make North Bay a more bicycle-friendly city.
