Summer Backpacks of Love campaign underway

A local group is once again putting together Backpacks of Love filled with donated essential items for the homeless.

The Compassionate Committee for the Homeless in North Bay started the initiative last year to support those in need in our community. 

Two drop off dates for donated items, cash and cheques are coming up this month, both at the New Apostolic Church on Joseph Street: 

• 1 to 3 pm on Saturday, June 11
• 1 to 3 pm on Saturday, June 18

New items needed include:
Sturdy duffle bag
Fingernail Clippers
Silver emergency blanket (not regular blankets)
Men’s or Women’s belts
Rain poncho
Deodorant
Sun hats/ball caps
Hairbrushes (Not combs)
Puzzle books
Hair elastics
Reusable water bottles
Toilet paper
Toothbrushes
Towelettes/wipes
Sunscreen (cream only)
Can opener
Toothpaste
Plastic utensils
Insect repellent (cream only)
Men’s or women’s underwear
6 pk of socks – light & heavy
Feminine hygiene products
Travel size shampoo/conditioner in one

The committee met it goals with last year’s inaugural summer campaign along with their winter Backpacks of Love initiative in the fall.
