Beer sales supporting North Bay Pride

North Bay Pride is once again benefiting from the sale of ‘Real Love’ beer.

The Gateway City Brewery product is back for the fourth year.

“It has been extremely successful,” says Jason Maclennan, Communications for North Bay Pride, “It has sold out each year.”

The beer is available at Gateway City Brewery.

Maclennan says 50 cents from every can go to North Bay Pride, which helps them put together their September Pride events and take on educational, political and awareness issues.

”The human experience is very different when we talk about human rights. To still be illegal to be who you are in 68 countries is a terrible thing,” he says. “You never see that for a straight person.”

Maclennan says they’re celebrating a lot, but still fighting too.

“Representation in leadership debates is a prime example of something that we went through which was lacking,” he says. “It is about talking about marginalized voices but it makes it better for everybody.  It’s not just about the queer community, it’s about everybody and if we help the most vulnerable, we all win.”

North Bay Pride events in mid-September will include a parade, trans march, boat cruise and a concert on Laurentian Ski Hill.

Maclennan says they’re also going to be in Pride Toronto later this month to promote North Bay Pride and try to get people to come to the events here.
