Crews battle apartment building fire in Sturgeon Falls

UPDATE 3:00 pm July 19:

All of the tenants are safe and there are no injuries. That’s according to West Nipissing Fire Chief Frank Loeffen, who also says crews from Sturgeon Falls, Verner and Field attended the fire. He says the older building as well as the heat created challenges for the firefighters. Loeffen says one team remains at the fire scene – which is under control.  He estimated the damage at around $700,000 with the fire still under investigation.   The call originally came in just before six this morning.

West Nipissing fire crews were dispatched to a fire in a seven-unit apartment building at the corner of Church and William streets in Sturgeon Falls Tuesday morning.

The fire was still burning by mid-morning with a thick haze of billowing smoke coming from the structure.

At last check, there’s also a power interruption affecting about 45 customers on Church, William and Arthur streets.

There’s no word on an estimated restoration time or cause of the fire.
