North Bay man facing charges after Algonquin Ave. assault

A 37-year-old North Bay man is facing assault charges after an incident in a parking lot.

Police say on July 31, shortly after 3 pm, two victims were in an Algonquin Avenue parking lot when the accused verbally accosted them. The victims responded and attempted to leave the area. Police say the accused then physically assaulted a male victim, and when a female victim attempted to intervene, assaulted her as well.

The accused fled the location prior to police arrival. Police arrested and charged the accused later that day.

Police say both victims sustained minor, non-life threatening injuries and the female victim was transported to hospital for treatment of her injuries. They add the accused and victims are not known to one another and no weapons were used in the assault.

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing at the North Bay Courthouse.
