The city is looking to reconfigure the intersection at Algonquin Avenue and Jane and Front Streets.
A staff report says because of the high volume of recorded traffic collisions at that intersection, the city has redesigned it.
The goal is to reduce the number of crashes involving both vehicles and pedestrians.
Staff say the project includes the construction of opposing left turn lanes on Algonquin, reconfiguration of the existing traffic signals, rehabilitation of the surface asphalt, and relocation of the Algonquin Regiment Memorial Monument and flagpole to Memorial Park between First and Second avenues.
Council will be voting on the $1.7 million project Tuesday night.
Also on Tuesday’s council agenda is a councillor motion to look at adding another pedestrian crosswalk on Oak Street, at the walkway building between Fraser and Ferguson.
