This year’s Hike for Hospice fundraiser will once again be virtual this year.
Nipissing Serenity Hospice says that’s due to the success of last year’s virtual hike, and the continued uncertainty of COVID-19.
Hike for Hospice will take place on Thanksgiving Weekend, October 8-10, 2022. Participants are encouraged to register as soon as possible, raise funds online, donate and then celebrate their accomplishments with a hike, walk, run or bike in their community.
“Hike for Hospice has been a great event in our region, and we are so happy to keep the tradition going in a virtual manner”, said Gil Pharand, Executive Director of Nipissing Serenity Hospice. “We are only 60% funded and the Hike provides us with much-needed funds to assist us in offering excellence in residential hospice palliative care. The services we provide are free of charge to residents of the Nipissing and East Parry Sound Districts. Since January 2020, we have had more than 225 individuals, along with their loved ones, use our services. The need is definitely there.”
Hike for Hospice has a goal of $65,000 this year.
“This region has always been so supportive and generous. The Hospice serves people from West Nipissing to Mattawa, from Temagami to Burks Falls and East Parry Sound. We truly are regional,” said Bernadette Lindsay, Fund Development Coordinator. “Hike for Hospice can be done from anywhere in our region, at anytime, with anyone. We encourage you get out with family and friends.”
Shelley King knows firsthand the importance of the Hospice. “We are so fortunate to have the Nipissing Serenity Hospice within our community. During my mother’s final journey, we were enveloped with kindness, compassion, love and support. My mother received a diamond standard of care and was treated with the utmost dignity and respect. Having my mother in the Nipissing Serenity Hospice for her final days was the greatest gift we were given. It was a privilege and more than I could have ever expected or wanted.”
Lucas Jones and his family had a similar experience. “From the moment that my Mom moved into the Hospice, she was treated with respect, dignity & kindness. My Mom enjoyed every aspect of the hospice from its thoughtful design to the wonderful staff that gave her around the clock support for the final 11 days of her life. My Dad actually moved into the Hospice as well, where he was fed & spent every moment with my Mom. It was a very difficult time in our lives & I am so thankful to have this in our community.”
