National mountain bike champion coming to North Bay

Hundreds of thousands of people are about to learn more about North Bay’s mountain bike trails.

National champion Emily Batty will be riding the local trails on Saturday.

Along with competing in two Olympics, Batty has won multiple national championships, bronze at two world championships and gold at the 2015 Pan Am Games in Toronto.

Between Facebook and Instagram, she has over 700,000 followers and will be sharing her experiences on the local trails.

A meet-and-greet with local fans is taking place at 12:30 pm Saturday, Sept. 10 at the Three Tower Trails on Tower Drive in North Bay.

The local trails were designed and built by volunteers of the North Bay Mountain Bike Association and follow International Mountain Biking Association standards for sustainable use.

The new network includes over 5 km of trails, ranging from beginner to difficult, and a trailhead pump track.

Along with programs for women, youth and social rides, there’s also a weekly race series that draws participants from Sudbury and Huntsville.
