First mayoral debate a cordial affair

Several issues were discussed in the first mayoral debate in North Bay.

Johanne Brousseau, Peter Chirico and Leslie McVeety squared off in the session hosted by North Bay Pride on Wednesday night.

The candidates kept it cordial discussing a variety of issues from transparency, consulting with taxpayers, privatization, tackling homelessness and high taxes.

All three were also asked if they’d change it so council has to live here and not just own property to run.

They all live in the city and would advocate for change.

Other issues discussed included education on residential schools, preventing online and in-person hate, and whether to negotiate or legislate unionized employees back to work.

The debate can be viewed on the North Bay Pride Facebook page

Next up is the North Bay and District Chamber of Commerce mayoral debate at 7 pm on Thursday, September 29.

It will be broadcast live on YourTV and streamed online via the YourTV North Bay YouTube channel.
